SB Feature Film Post Blog Post 7

Over the last few days I have been focusing mostly on backgrounds editing. I have gone out to record a few backgrounds in that time too for specific places. Here is a picture of my six channel surround recording rig I used for some of it:

Surround Rig
Surround atmos recording set-up using Sennheiser MKH 418 S Mid Side Shotgun for Front Centre, Spaced DPA 4060s for LR, and ORTF Sennheiser MKH 8050s for Surrounds. Recording with Sound Devices 442 and 633 pairing.

Yesterday there was an opportunity to record some walla at a wedding reception, but I needed to be discreet and non-obtrusive, so I set up an alternative quad surround recording rig in a Tooheys New cooler bag:

I have almost finished the backgrounds now. There are a couple of spots where I’d like to record something a bit better if time allows and opportunity comes up, but I have decent surround backgrounds for most things now.

I have also merged the Foley session into the Master session. Most of it is great. There seems to be a few missing cues which we’ll need to suss out, but overall it is really good.

The plan for today is to:

  • finish what I can of the backgrounds;
  • conform the master session to a new edit from the picture editor.
